Rescue Information
The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League is a non-profit organization that works, through it's volunteers, to place unwanted Great Danes into safe & loving homes. At any one time there are an average of about
70 Great Danes in need of homes.
MAGDRL rescues Great Danes and Great
Dane mixes that have been
abandoned, neglected and/or abused. Some owners love their dogs but are unable to keep them because they may be moving, divorcing, or just not financially capable of giving a dog what it needs. Other Great Danes are rescued because their owners didn't realize that cute little puppy, in just a few short months, was going to grow up to be ninety pounds, and still a puppy. And yet other Great Danes have just been rescued because their owners didn't take care of them. Every dog that comes to MAGDRL is special. It is through MAGDRL that we ensure these dogs find a home that will love them for life. MAGDRL only places dogs in our geographic region of
Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Lower New York
(including New York City),
North Carolina, Northern South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia

For MAGDRL Coordinators
MAGDRL provides care for these abandoned dogs. All dogs are spayed or neutered and provided
necessary medical care to return them to good health. To ensure that these Danes are placed in a loving and permanent home, MAGDRL screens the applicant and the home, checks references, and enters into a legally binding agreement with the adopting family. We require that the rescued Dane is an inside house pet and a member of the family.
How Can You Help? MAGDRL is staffed completely by volunteers and are always looking for a helping hand. There are many ways you could help a Dane In Need.
Provide A Foster Home!
Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League is always looking for foster families to place our dogs with until we can find them a permanent home. Fostering is a gratifying way to help a Dane In Need. Foster families provide a loving
environment, a safe house, for dogs while they wait for their new families. Through foster families we also get a better idea of the dog's personality, manners and habits. When we can't find a foster home for a Dane, they have to be boarded in a kennel. This is not the ideal situation for any dog and also puts a strain on MAGDRL's purse strings.
